Poppy has put on some weight since coming into ATRA and is now a healthy, 60 pound ball of energy! She had a terribly rough start to her life rescued from a hoarding-neglect case with over 15 other dogs and then enduring heartworm treatment since October of 2025. She has not missed a beat and is now heartworm free!

Poppy is a bit fearful of people, men mainly, and will take several weeks to warm up to her new adopter. Fast moves make her back up, so moving slowly wins her over! She LOVES other dogs and having another dog in the home is a MUST!

Poppy is now in a foster home with 2 other female pups, a very fat cat, and a crazy toddler! She doesn't have all basic commands down yet, but she does know "come" and will usually come when called! You know, typical Airedale stubbornness! Poppy is potty trained and has not had any accidents in the house or in her crate! She needs to go out regularly, but will last 10 hours overnight for bedtime! She sleeps in the room, on a dog bed with her foster family. She will hop up in the bed when foster dad leaves for work. An attempt to crate her overnight was made, but was unsuccessful!

She is a chewer and will need mental stimulation and exercise to keep her chewing at bay. This girl will destroy a stuffed toy in 2 minutes flat. She has also chewed up a few toys her bullmastiff foster sister has not been able to get through! She will need to continue to be crate trained when you leave the house until she grows out of her chewing.

Poppy will require a 6 foot fence, preferably privacy as she is a fence climber and can climb chain link. She is also a digger, so will need to be watched like a hawk and cannot be left outside alone. She runs extremely fast and you will be amazed at the zoomies she has in the yard!!

If you are interested in Poppy and want some more information on this cute girl, please contact Jenna Pecenka at 630-347-0343 or email at [email protected]. You must have an adoption application on file with ATRA.
