Meet Freyja, a wonderful 6-year-old spayed female who has come back to ATRA! This gal is guaranteed to warm your heart! She loves taking walks through her foster mom’s small central Illinois town where she is loved by many of the local store owners. Freyja loves getting her pup cup when visiting the locally owned wellness drink shop! Then on to the senior apartments to see who is enjoying the day outside! Freyja is a true extrovert on her walks around town!

Her foster mom has been noticed that she loves men and women alike (but men are the top of her list) and would do well with a family with preteen or teenagers that understand not rushing her but happy to throw her favorite squeaky tennis balls or a retired couple that enjoys walking a people friendly pup. The lucky family that adopts Freya will quickly fall in love with what a great dog she is though she still has some quirks to overcome. Freyja does not kennel well and is currently working with a trainer to help her overcome her anxiety being in the crate, she struggles with being home alone and experiences a great deal of stress and anxiety. Her adoptive family will need to continue training with Freyja to help her gain the confidence she wasn’t able to develop! Freyja would benefit from a household where someone works from home or retired and is committed to working with a trainer to help Freyja with being home alone and with crate training.

Freyja is an amazing watch dog and has very big feelings about delivery trucks, the mail person and sometimes just whoever passes by the house. Her foster mom and her current trainer believe Freyja would make for an exceptional service/ therapy dog visiting nursing homes and/or hospitals. Freyja instinctively knows to be calm around older people and hasn’t flinched being around a wheelchair moving inches away from her. She may need to be the only dog and reacts to smaller dogs, especially small white dogs! If placed in a home with another dog, a meet and greet would be required to ensure it is the best match. Freyja would need a very confident dog that presents neutral around her and is of similar size, or larger.

Freyja can be somewhat aloof, independent and calm, she does not need to be always attached to your hip! She enjoys a good rub down but not a fan of face petting from those she doesn’t know. She does not demand a lot of attention. She knows many commands and is a quick learner with tasty treats for encouragement. She knows, sit, down, wait (mostly), come (if it is more beneficial than what she is doing) and heel. Her foster mom has commented that she is the best dog she has ever walked.
